BedrookOur retreat is a special week for those looking forward to relaxing and renewing with new and old friends, to taste delightful food, to travel a bit in the Brittany region and to nurture your body, mind and soul with guided gentle movement experiences.

The Chateau is a special place for us in the region of Pays de Vitre, Brittany, France.  The closest village, Vitré, is where guests will arrive by train from Paris, greeted and gathered by myself and my assistants to travel to the rural village of La Croixille where the Chateau de la Rongere is located.  Vitre has a beautiful medieval quarter and a 15th century castle and we will experience a guided tour of the town and castle on the Sunday after our arrival.  Following our tour we will enjoy some time in downtown Vitre, visiting shops, including our favorite locally owned specialty market Les Fermettes.

Cynthia McCabeEach day at the Chateau will offer experiences, all of which you may join if desired.  Monday night we will make some simple aromatherapy products to enjoy during your week.  Tuesday night we will offer a game night in the living room.  Wednesday we tour Mont-St-Michel (famous for it’s tidal island and UNESCO heritage site on which a monastery was built around the 1400’s) and Villedieu-les-Poêles to see artisan copper (the city where the bells of Versailles where formed).  Thursday night we have a handmade chocolate and wine pairing party and Friday night we close, possibly with a sound bath.
Mon, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday we begin our days optionally with guided meditation, followed by breakfast and a guided yoga exploration (suitable for all levels of practitioners, including those who have never experienced yoga).  After lunch is free time where participants may enjoy the beautiful grounds, the pool, rest or wander the country roads.  Journalling, drawing, sketching and painting are options as well, or for those inclined, ping pong or trampoline!
Chateau ChefOur chef this year is Kean McCabe of local Central California Coast fame.  (Check him out on Instagram @earthandoven).  Kean’s food career began in high school as a bread maker for a local fish restaurant and that began a varied career at numerous establishments, with his last two restaurants being fine-dining establishments where he refined is skill of beautiful food with beautiful plating.  Ready to try his hand at his own business, he launched Earth and Oven out of his home during early Covid, providing pick-up gourmet pizzas and backyard fine-dining while restaurants were closed due to the pandemic.  His success quickly grew as his name and menus reached wine-makers and the fine-dining public.  He is currently providing earth-fired pizzas and private dinners, winery event catering and weddings to his resume and most recently as a chef for SAMPL wines.  His passion for food and flavors, his flare and easy public personae, make for a delightful dining experience.  It is with great delight that we are adding him to this year’s retreat!
