Right across the English Channel is the beautiful area of Swiss Normandy. Easily accessed by ferry to Ouistreham it only takes 45 minutes by car to arrive at Clécy, the capital of the region.
Clécy has a population of just over 1200 people and offers tourists a wide array of activities as well as lovely riverside restaurants. Watersports abound with opportunities for more adventurous kayak trips down the river to the more sedate pedalos or electric boats. It also offers a zip line adventure, a luge course, an 18 hole golf course with hotel, a miniature rail exhibit, hang gliding and an amazing “voie verte” bicycle path from Caen through Swiss Normandy.
There are many historic châteaux in this area, including the Château de Caen built circa 1060 by William the Conqueror; the Chateau (also belonging to William the Conqueror) in Falaise; the amazing Château de Sassy with gardens; the Chateau Carrouges; Domaine de Pontecoulant ; well I could go on and on. These are the historic châteaux, the list of privately owned venues is endless with many special event venues, bed and breakfasts, entire châteaux lets, etc.
