We recently had an inquiry from a Chateau who will soon be featured on ChateauxEscapesFrance.com. The Castelnau des Fieumarcon listed themselves as being in the region of France named Occitanie. Well I looked on our map and upon further digging recognized that in 2016 the French Government combined the regions of Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées into what is now called Occitanie. Delving deeper I compared our Escape to the Chateau DIY map with a region map and found that France has combined administrative regions. So as to avoid confusion (which I was) here’s how it breaks down:
- Bretagne (Brittany), Pays de la Loire and Ile de France are consistent between maps.
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Normandie (Normandy) is broken down into Upper (Haute) and Lower (Basse)
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Nord pas de Calais and Picardie (Picardy) are identified as Hauts de France
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Champagne-Ardenne, Lorraine and Alsace are identified as Grand Est
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Centre is identified as Centre Val de Loire
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Bourgogne (Burgundy) and Franche-Comte are combined to Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Poitou Charentes, Limousin and Aquitaine are identified as Nouvelle Aquitaine
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Auvergne and Rhone Alpes are combined as Auvergne-Rhone Alpes
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Midi-Pyrénées and Languedoc-Roussillon are identified as Occitanie
- On the Escape to the Chateau DIY map Provence-Alpes-Cotes d’Azur are identified by PACA (and I would NEVER have guessed at that one!)
