When couples think about getting married in romantic France, their first thoughts are typically for Paris, Provence or the popular Dordogne.  It seems that Normandy is often overlooked, yet it has SO much to offer to visitors not the least of which is its proximity and ease of access from the UK.

Normandy itself is a huge and very diverse department covering 11,825 square miles.  On the estuary of the Seine lies the beautiful coastal town of Honfleur where you can also see that amazing French engineering feat the Normandy Bridge which 20 years ago was the world’s largest cable-stayed bridge.   A little further down the coast lies the fashionable town of Deauville with its famous horse races and casino.

Travel further west to the Cotentin Peninsula (accessed from the UK into Cherbourg or Caen) and you will find Granville and Avranches followed by the world heritage site Le Mont St Michel.  En route you will have passed through Caen which is the home to William the Conqueror’s castle, and 30 mins from Bayeux with its famous tapestry.

Further south you enter into the region known as Swiss Normandy and then on to the Foret d’Andaine where you will find the spa town of Bagnoles de l’Orne (frequented by the Parisians seeking the cure) which is a belle epoque town well worth a visit.  Close by is the medieval town of Domfront.

Of course for the history buffs, the Normandy beaches provide an emotional experience not to be missed.

Just to give you an idea of the size of Normandy, few people know (and we were surprised ourselves) that the amazing Giverny Gardens are also in Normandy which is located just 1.5 hrs from Paris.
