Last Sunday on the first day of Advent we attended a traditional English Christmas lunch at the Château de Vaudezert.  Ideally located in the Orne department of Normandy the Château is very close to the beautiful towns of Bagnoles de l’Orne and Domfront.

Our hosts Wayne, Karen and Clothilde had decorated the Château for the season and the luncheon they prepared was a total delight.  After sherry and hors d’oeuvres in the British style bar, everyone moved into the dining room to enjoy a 4-course luncheon with paired wines.  It was a delight for us expats living here, a taste of home: Christmas crackers, turkey with stuffing and all the trimmings, pigs in blankets (brussel sprouts for those of us who love them!) and a traditional Christmas pudding with choice of brandy sauce or cream!  If that was not enough, cheese and crackers were followed by home-made truffles and coffee. One of the guests commented that the food was the best they had had since moving to France 18 months ago – a high compliment indeed!

The Château de Vaudezert makes an ideal venue for many functions: boutique weddings, corporate retreats, or a romantic getaway offering beautifully appointed ensuite accommodation (currently up to 16 people), self catering or catered.  In 2020 Wayne and Karen will be opening a new wing which will include a beautiful bridal suite with dressing room for the bride and entourage. If your vision for the special day is a beautifully renovated château within a fab wooded setting then look no further; Karen and Wayne offer a wedding package priced from just £3950!

Here’s what two of the guests had to say:

Well, what can I say about last Sunday’s festivities! Such a warm welcome at the chateau from Wayne and Karen.  The setting of the chateau is just stunning, beautiful woodlands and a very secluded spot. Wayne and Karen made such an effort to make it perfect for us all, beautifully decorated for Christmas and certainly got us in the mood for the months festivities!  Having had a tour of the chateau I will certainly be booking for their Valentines event next year. Would highly recommend, well done Karen and Wayne for such a successful day. Karen W.

Having visited the Chateau de Vaudezert for a pre Christmas dinner on the 1st December, I can say with absolute pleasure how wonderful the experience was.  From the minute we stepped through the doors of this grand old chateau, to bidding farewell to new found friends, we were treated to a delightful festive treat.  The food, service and beautiful surroundings cannot help but relax you. If ever we wanted a venue for a celebration event, it would be at the Chateau de Vaudezert.  Trish T.
