Let’s all welcome Nigel and Debbie (Debs) the owners of Chateau Gioux and the newest addition to the upcoming series of Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau DIY which premiers on March 23rd.  Chateau Gioux will be introduced to viewers the week of March 30th.

Chateau Gioux is a classic example of a late 19th century French chateau.  Built around 1895 for French and Belgian nobility, the building has been used as a hunting lodge, a sanctuary for WWII French resistance fighters, a hospital, an OAP home and has now become a lovely Chambre d’hote offering accommodation within 3 ensuite bedrooms.  It is set on over 4 acres and is located just 15 kms from Lac de Vassiviere, one of the largest man made lakes in Europe offering a variety of sporting activities or simply “chillax” time.

This Yorkshire couple has already reached rock star status having been featured in a recent newspaper article in the Yorkshire Post.  Debbie has always been entrepreneurial having created a farm shop and cafe near Easingwold before launching a small lettings agency, and Nigel had run a dairy farm in France back in the 1990s and therefore speaks fluent French.  Life kept bringing them back to France as they were helping Nigel’s parents find a holiday home in la belle France. This love affair with France planted the seeds in their minds to seek a better work life balance and thus the hunt for a chambre d’hote began.  The rest as they say is history – be sure to follow their journey on everyone’s favourite TV programme.
