A Fairytale Wedding in a French Château

A wedding in a castle is a fairytale which we’ve all dreamed of from a very young age.  Arriving in a horse drawn carriage up a long tree lined driveway with your prince waiting for you at the foot of a wide flight of stairs leading into the castle.  Where this used to be a dream it is now very easily achieved here in France. There are many choices of Château which host big or small parties, elopements, wedding vow renewals, hen parties – you name it – they can do it.

This past weekend we visited the Château de la Basmaignée in the Pays de la Loire which has its own intimate and very beautiful chapel perfect for a smaller wedding or for those who opt for an elopement which (according to the Daily Telegraph) is fast becoming a trend with many couples choosing to combine their wedding with a dream holiday.  Smaller weddings are also being called “micro” weddings with guests typically numbering less than 30.  

At the other end of the spectrum there are literally hundreds of mouthwatering Château venues dotted all across France.  I found this list of the 20 best wedding venues in France https://www.frenchweddingstyle.com/20-best-wedding-chateau-in-france/ are they not amazing?
